For this month’s handbuilding class, we’ll be gathering inspiration directly from nature. Bring along leaves, flowers, grasses, ferns, seed heads, or other interesting botanical treasures from your garden, a walk in the woods, or even the side of the road. Don’t worry if your finds aren’t perfect or in full bloom. Some of the most interesting textures come from ordinary plants, dried stems, and leaves that have seen better days. We’ll use these natural materials to create beautiful impressions in clay before transforming them into a serving tray with handles.
Each tray will be unique, reflecting the plants and textures you choose to capture. No pottery experience is necessary, and you’ll be guided through every step of the process.
Class includes two sessions:
Session 1: Create and decorate your tray
Session 2: Glaze your finished piece
By the end of the class, you’ll have a functional handmade serving tray that preserves a little piece of a Nova Scotia summer.
